Artist Statement

I create images & objects that are meditations on the physical & spiritual experience of a place. Drawing on universal themes related to memory, relationships, & belief systems, the observation of the human condition provides a source of material to explore the fundamentals of painting, & ceramics.

The traditional genres of Still Life, Landscape, & the Interior, provide the context into which these themes emerge through narrative, symbolism, & metaphor.

Within the painting practice, emphasis is placed on draughtsmanship, & working from life. With the use of my own body, & that of models & props, I reconstruct the action & translate it to the canvas.

A love of clay & wheel thrown ceramic forms provides a new three dimensional surface on which to engrave, paint & draw, & explore the design elements of function & decoration.
